Sproutside at the Flint Children's Museum

To inspire a love for learning and awaken imagination through exploration and hands on play.

Bugs & Other Critters!

Today at the museum we observed different bugs and other creatures. Our guests learned so much about the critters living around us! Thanks so much to Darren from MSU for catching all of the creatures and teaching us all about them.

This little crayfish is saying “hello!”

They sure are fast little critters, good job catching them!

A Little Bit of Nature in the City

We love that our garden attracts so many beautiful creatures like this lovely butterfly!

Does anyone know what kinds of butterfly this is?

We all Share the Same Backyard

Just a friendly reminder from a little toad in Sproutside. Keep in mind when playing outside that many animals, insects, and plants live there too. Make sure to pick up your litter to keep our friends in nature happy. 🙂

Fun with Nature

A lovely visitor donated a few birds nests and a beautiful egg.

Can you guess what type of bird laid the egg? Leave your answer in a comment below.

We had a lot of fun with today’s field trip in Sproutside. They looked at the nests and bird’s egg, and had a great time playing in the sunshine.

Soft and Furry Things in Sproutside

Kids love sensory play, and it is very important in their development. Touch is a great sense to use out in sproutside. Our sensory garden has lots of neat feeling plants such as lamb’s ear.

And there are other furry things in our garden that are even cuter. This morning we found this little baby bunny munching on some of the plants.

How cute!

Whose Poo?

We are exploring Michigan mammals by looking at their paws and poo! We had tons of fun identifying animals at the museum today, now it’s your turn!

Correctly guess whose poo this is before July 26 and you will be entered into a drawing for a free museum admission!

This is Michael helping two new friends match up tracks and scat with the animals they belong to!
